The last session will feature active investors from a variety of ETA models for example, traditional search, accelerator-cohort, and own-operate long term. The panel will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of various funding models and what kind of searcher might be a good fit for each.
Moderator: Hunter Reichert
Hunter is a lecturer at the UVA Darden School of Business focused on the strategy, ethics & challenges of acquiring and managing an operating business. Professionally, Hunter is a founding partner of Mangrove Equity Partners, a lower middle market, operationally focused private investment fund. Prior to co-founding Mangrove, Hunter was a founding partner of Harren Equity Partners and previous to Harren, spent six years with Charlottesville, Virginia-based Quad-C, Inc. He began his career at RFE Investment Partners, a $200 million venture capital partnership located in New Canaan, CT. Hunter received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics with Honors from Hamilton College and a Masters in Business Administration from The Darden School at the University of Virginia.

The second session will feature recent MBA graduates who have pursued the ETA path directly out of business school. The panel will include current owner-operators who pursued a mix of acquisition financing models, for example; traditional search fund, family office, self-funded with debt-financing and accelerator-cohort.
Moderator: Randy Seibert
Randy Seibert is an adjunct lecturer at UVa’s Darden School of Business where he teaches Tactical Topics for Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition. He is an experienced executive and entrepreneur providing fractional C-suite support as a director or senior advisor to multiple organizations. Mr. Seibert has been a CEO, CFO, CAO, director, advisor, consultant, and facilitator within numerous industries including infotech, healthcare, fitness, automotive, convenience retail, and petroleum distribution. Prior to his current work, he retired as CEO from a $175 million closely held enterprise after divesting its largest business unit at a premium valuation. He received his MBA from Darden, and his BBA from the College of William & Mary where he studied finance and philosophy.

SE ETA Series: Intro to ETA with Shawn Munday

The first session is designed to be an introduction to Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition (ETA) for students and alumni that are not familiar with the overall concept. This session will cover: What is ETA? History of ETA? Different Approaches to ETA?
Shawn Munday is a professor of the practice of finance and executive director of the Institute for Private Capital at UNC Kenan-Flagler. The Institute for Private Capital was founded to promote research and public understanding of the roles of private capital in the global economy. Professor Munday was a managing director in the alternative assets group at Citigroup where he advised and financed alternative asset managers on over $75 billion of transactions including leveraged buyouts, dividend recapitalizations, bolt-on acquisitions, IPOs and divestitures. Prior to Citigroup, he served as a commissioned submarine officer in the U.S. Navy. He received his MBA from UNC Kenan-Flagler and a BS in electrical engineering from the United States Naval Academy.
